I've just bought the small TH390 and I'm not impressed with the design. The one end of the central tube is castellated so the sealing washer does not sit on a flat face and the other end has a recess which is too small for the sealing washer to sit in. I spent my working life in engineering design and regard this component as bad design. Ok it sort of works and two cables can be connected but I don't see that the seals can comply with IP68. I'm very disappointed

(Un)amusingly, the final few seconds show that not only is the cap bolt not tightened, but a split lock washer is being used under the bolt head. This style of "locking" washer should never be used in a critical application as they can "open up" and fail to secure the bolt. That could be an operational disaster with such a bearing. It's also not clear if the two outer races should have their own fasteners holding the two halves together independent of the cast iron housing. I'd hope so...

I still dont understand what the problem was. Theres ropes running down the shaft so it cant be filled? So if the ropes are a problem, why not just cut them at the top and let them fall down the shaft and then drop the stone in on top of them?

The WEG W22 is an asyncronous induction motor. Simply running it as a generator it can't possibly achieve 96% efficiency? So are they using a special PM rotor, i.e. running it as a syncronous PM generator ??

This is a very well thought out site, it has means for fish and eel to get to the water ahead of the weirs. Even at high water in the downstream side, generating capacity is good. This is the way forward.
